Roping in the Met Council

"As usual, the devil is in the details."

I got kind of a kick out of reading the paper this morning about proposed Met Council "reforms". Pardon me if I don't get too excited. In fact, pardon me if I don't believe a word of the intent. There is no way on this green Earth that the Met Council will take one step into the night peacefully. No, they are power merchants. And if you think they will give up one inch of that power, well, I might have a bridge to sell.

As usual, the devil is in the details. The plan has already been criticized by the Anoka Board Chair. And she had good cause to do so. The Governor still has way, way too much power in picking this bunch of bureaucrats. The big change will be a new nominating committee made up of three representatives from city councils of the affected district, three representatives from the county board of the affected district, and seven minions of the Governor's choosing. So right off the bat, votes will probably be seven to six in favor of the Governor. Plus, the Governor does not have to abide by the decision of the nominating committee.

Here is the problem. There are many bill payers out here in the hinter lands affected by this renegade council. We not only don't like the Met Council, we don't trust them either. And the same goes for the Governor. They are statists all, and they want to genetically alter the way we live in the metro area. They are a cancer, an impediment to our freedoms. They need to be cut out of government, never, ever to return.

Somehow, somewhere, they developed taxing authority. Yet they are unelected. One versed in the Constitution might wonder how this works. I sure do. I was on Jeff Johnson's campaign team when he was running for Governor. And he had a plan. Once sworn in, he was going to get rid of the seventeen council members appointed by the former Governor, and then replace them with folks who will do nothing. And it would be legal. Only the Senate can kill the Met Council, so until we take back the Senate and the Governor's seat, this is the kind of plan we are stuck with.

Until that happens, the fight goes on. And we have some excellent warriors up here in Anoka County. Stay tuned - more on this will be coming in the near future. Our Liberty Group is planning a Met Council Forum for the month of June.

I have found out something very interesting. The more people know about this group, the more anger I see. I think when folks find out the Met Council violates the very roots our country was founded on, that is their tipping point. Spread the word.
