"It goes back years in this country. As much as we would like to blame Obama, Clinton, Carter, Johnson or ever Roosevelt, it goes back much further."
It is Labor Day at Last! The last weekend of the State Fair. The last weekend of "the summer". It is all good! However, some might ask, " What is Labor Day, after all? We understand Memorial Day. We understand Independence Day. But Labor Day? Okay - it is a bit anachronistic. But it is here to stay. And what does it mean today? Stay tuned.
It goes back years in this country. As much as we would like to blame Obama, Clinton, Carter, Johnson or ever Roosevelt, it goes back much further. Like to 1894 when it was signed into law by President Grover Cleveland. And back in those days, we needed it. Tons of union folks taking the weekend off to celebrate. But what about now?
Today it means not so much. The number of private union employees keeps dropping every year. The number of public union folks (like SEIU), I don't even count. Why? They are more Commies than Americans. They have been brainwashed to think about the "me factor" much more than the "we factor". So these days, what about Labor Day? It is nothing more than a three day weekend to shut down the cabin and get the kids ready for school.
So why do we still celebrate it? Memorial Day weekend is somber. I get it. Independence Day is ruckus. I also get it. But Labor Day? What up? It is neither somber nor ruckus. It is just a day.
Even though it is just a day, it is a good day to get stuff done. The garbage will be one day delayed, but who cares. Before the rain starts tomorrow, I will pull some stuff out of the garage and get it ready for the garbage or charity. Other than that, it is just another day. Heck, even the Jerry Lewis telethon is not on like it once was.
All I know is this - Tuesday for us retired folks - that is the start of our vacation.
