Twice the price, none of the fun

"Getting back to this unholy alliance between the Hennepin County Board and the unelected Metropolitan Council, can you believe the gall of this group?"

Okay. I need to do one more rant on the biggest "investment", AND the biggest waste of money this town has done to date. Yup - I am still talking the SW LRT. The train which few want except (and I will use a Democrat term), "POWERFUL FORCES!!!! It is the project which will give us a train twice the price of US Bank Stadium, and none of the fun.

Peter McLaughlin, a HUGE statist on the Hennepin County Board, and the chief train lover, said yesterday that (in so many words) failure was not an option on the SW LRT. In fact, about $140M has already been spent on this POS.

Getting back to this unholy alliance between the Hennepin County Board and the unelected Metropolitan Council, can you believe the gall of this group? They have cobbled together over the past six or seven years, $140M of taxpayer money to go for .... what? A dream? A fantasy? Something which may never happen? Statists involved should be paraded around in shackles for this one. Right in the public square.

Someone penned an article in the paper this morning explaining (gasp) the facts about this fiasco. How much (take that greenies!) carbon every year this train will add to Mother Earth's air. How FEW people will ride this thing, and how much per passenger it will cost the taxpayer. How much urban forest (again greenies, take that!) will have to be removed for the construction. And finally, how FEW cars will be taken off our congested roads once the train is completed.

By the way, there are still lawsuits locally and in Washington which need to be resolved. So taking that, plus all the negative aspects of this train into consideration, why is the push so hard? If we had ANY investigative reporters left in this town, I would love for someone to follow the money. To find out the REAL reason why we need to build this thing when it is such a lemon.

It did not take long to find out who was behind the Northern Lights Express train to Duluth (aka the "Casino Train"). A former commissioner who has land interests on the proposed route. Again, one just needed to follow the money.

Like I said in yesterday's article, I don't have a dog in this fight - I don't live in Hennepin County. HOWEVER, should Anoka County get pulled into this mess, even indirectly by the unrepentant Metropolitan Council, I will probably act poorly. In fact, we need quite a few taxpayers to start acting poorly. Not to take it anymore.

This SW LRT is nothing more than a modern day version of what led up the Boston Tea Party. Taxation without representation (Metropolitan Council). And we need to start acting like the revolutionary citizens of Boston to fight this injustice.
