The Mollycoddled

"Then it dawned on me. It was like a bolt from the blue. This is our fault. My generation. We 'mollycoddled' the next generation. We have turned them into the "entitlement" generation." 

As we were driving up to Ely this afternoon, I was thinking more and more about the fractures within our country. Due to the length of our drive, I was allowed (remember - I am in a "cone of silence" from politics while on vacation) to listen to some news on the radio. The station we were listening to addressed the "unrest" which was taking place in certain cities across the country. The person on the radio made a interesting comment - "Most of the demonstrations (or riots) are taking place smack dab in the middle of blue cities, which are surrounded by a sea of red counties." Bingo!

Then it dawned on me. It was like a bolt from the blue. This is our fault. My generation. We "mollycoddled" the next generation. We have turned them into the "entitlement" generation. We have allowed our children and our children's children to think that everything should go their way. Things should be handed to them. That is why they are burning everything down in the street. They know with President Trump, they will not get EVERYTHING handed to them. There will be work, accountability and expected results. Welcome to the real world. 

Sorry - the "free s**t" for life is only a fable. Like Peter Pan. Here is reality - our "hope and change" promise has left us a mess. Don't believe it? Ask a family of four who are over the poverty line. How about those insurance premiums in 2017? Higher than your mortgage payment? Welcome to ObamaCare.  Donald Trump heard those voices. And BTW, there is no such thing as free college. College still costs money - the costs will just be shifted to the taxpayers.

To use their vernacular, I do not understand why the upcoming generation do not understand why things are so "effed" up right now. Okay - we all know it is. You are the inheritors of what is being passed down. Sure, you can criticize us and say we dropped the ball. But at the end of the day, you need to clean this up to pass down to your kids and grand kids.

Love him or not, President Elect Trump also realizes this. That is why he is President Elect. He does not want his kids, nor you, to shoulder this burden. So I will say this to those "mollycoddled" youth who are sobbing, pouting, rioting, or whatever - get over it! America will survive.

For those who knew that Obama was going to fundamentally going to change America - we survived. You will survive Donald Trump also.

To the mollycoddled, let me say this as a retired sailor. Get your s**t together! Grow up, and help out! Wake up and see the country is in a mess. Hillary would have dragged you and the country further into the mess. "Draining the swamp" means fixing the corruption in Washington - that BOTH sides created! Help us! This is for you and your kids!

So you can continue to pout, cry and riot. It will not help. Think of your great grandfathers - the ones who were part of the greatest generation. If they had acted like you, we would all be speaking German or Japanese right now.
