Today's Boogie Man

"It is important that each Republican Administration have a Boogie Man."

He is back! I really missed him! Who is that? The Boogie Man, of course! We have not had one for eight years! But now that we have a Republican Administration once again, the Boogie Man has popped up. This time it is Stephen K. Bannon, the Special Adviser to the President. Eight years ago it was Vice President Cheney. Remember him? He was the one our "free press" would refer to as Darth Vader.

It is important that each Republican Administration have a Boogie Man. One who the "free press" can use as a poster boy for how neanderthal, how troglodyte, how racist, sexist, homophobic and so on the entire party is. In short, they need a caricature. And Steven K. Bannon is it this time around.

Truthfully, I had not heard of him before the election. Probably one of the reasons for that is I am not a huge Breitbart fan. It is not that I dislike Breitbart - I just don't use them that often as a news source. I know now that Bannon was associated with Breitbart for the past few years. But since Bannon is close to my age, I was wondering what he has done with the rest of his life.

First off, he is quite accomplished. He is no idiot. He has a master's degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He was also a Naval Officer. He served as a Surface Warfare Officer and then as a special assistant to the CNO. After getting out of the Navy, he went to work for Goldman Sachs. After that, he held a variety of other positions, including being involved in some TV and movie business. For most of his career, his accomplishments were amazing to say the least.

But then we have the stint at Breitbart which is what has so many in a lather right now. Many don't know this - Breitbart New has only been around since 2007. It was founded by Andrew Breitbart, a guy who loved to poke his finger in the eye of the Left. Steve Bannon was asked to be on the Board at Breitbart. After Andrew Breitbart's untimely death in 2012, Bannon was then asked to be the CEO of Breitbart News. And that is where he stayed until Donald Trump asked him to come on his campaign team.

Here is the nut of the nut which is causing the firestorm. Breitbart News aligned themselves with something called the Alt Right. No, the Alt Right is not the Nazi Party. It is a loosely knit group of people from the internet who send in articles which are anti PC, multicultural, sometimes immigration. Some who have studied the Alt Right don't know if many of these articles are serious, or just inflammatory to get under the skin of the Left. And that is all I know.

Of course, our "free press" is now proclaiming Steve Bannon is bringing the Alt Right into the White House. That the entire Administration will be tainted and govern like racists. Yes, I can see the narrative already starting to form. Until Bannon is purged from this Administration, the cancer will continue to spread.

I may be naive, but I would rather wait to see what Mr. Bannon can do to help President Elect Trump. Until I see evidence that he is "poisoning the well", I will look at Steve Bannon as a highly educated man, a former Naval Officer, and one who has tons of good business experience.
