The La Raza Issue

"So Donald Trump wants this judge to be recused from this case. Why? Everyone with a pulse knows about Trump's threat to build 'the wall' on our southern border."

Trying to get my head around this issue almost makes me dizzy. As usual, like so many contentious issues, this issue is far from black and white. Also as usual, Donald Trump is not afraid to go into the brier patch, no matter how cut up and banged around he might get.

Which issue? The judge, Gonzalo Curiel, in the lawsuit against Trump University. Judge Curiel is of Hispanic lineage, born in Indiana, an Obama appointee, and belongs to a group called The La Raza Lawyers of San Diego.

First a couple of points. This group the judge belongs to is not affiliated with the group the National La Raza Council. That being said, the term La Raza (from what I understand) means "the race".

So Donald Trump wants this judge to be recused from this case. Why? Everyone with a pulse knows about Trump's threat to build "the wall" on our southern border. So I start to think about what would happen if this were Obama and not Trump. If there were some kind of Obama civil rights executive order which was being challenged in a Federal Court. The judge, a Bush appointee, is named Joseph Schmidt. He belongs to a group called the Aryan Judges Council. However, they are not affiliated with the Aryan Nation.

I use this ridiculous example for a reason. Of course the Obama Administration would protest this judge.  Now back to Judge Curiel. A look at his record. It is not bad at all. Prior to becoming a federal judge, he was part of narcotics enforcement in San Diego which helped bring down a major Mexican criminal organization. This organization supplied drugs to the United States. Curiel was so effective, the Tijuana Cartel is said to have put him on a hit list.

Like I said, this is far from being a black or white issue. I sure can think of many more judges on the Loony Left which have worst records. In fact, Judge Curiel's record for an Obama appointee looks pretty good. But he is a member of a group which has La Raza in it. And in the long run, that might end up being a problem for this lawsuit.

Here is how I see this play out. I am getting pretty good on seeing the Trump patterns. First off, no more will be said about the judge. That part is over. The trial will proceed. Should the judge rule favorably in Trump's favor, Donald Trump will then laud praise after praise upon Judge Curiel. He may even say Judge Curiel is SCOTUS worthy. However should Trump lose, his lawyers will then appeal on the grounds of an impartial judge.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. Nobody is better than stepping in goo that Donald Trump is. Sometimes it hurts him, and sometimes he uses it to his advantage. In any event, between Hillary's criminal behavior and Trump's propensity to step in it, November could be a very bumpy ride away.
