"Even as recent as the Republican convention in Duluth, I saw some wearing the MNGOP button entitled, 'Give it back'. I dare say the majority of us are not going to see a red cent out of this highly targeted tax bill."
Mark Dayton, once again thinks he has the loyal opposition over a barrel. That the enraged voters are going to primary each and every one of them when they get back to their home districts. New flash for Mr. Meds - ain't going to happen. Do you really want to veto that POS tax bill Governor? The one that looks like a DFL bill more than anything else. THE most targeted tax bill we have seen in many a year? Go ahead - make our day!
Even as recent as the Republican convention in Duluth, I saw some wearing the MNGOP button entitled, "Give it back". I dare say the majority of us are not going to see a red cent from this highly targeted tax bill. Give what back? And to whom? How about an across the board tax cut? That would affect everyone. Or the promised and not delivered Social Security fix for our almost one million seniors? That fix would either affect everyone now or in the future.
And then sir, you will once again show what a neophyte you are in the world of negotiation. I guess that is what happens when you grow up a trust fund baby and never have to really hold a real job. So let me help you just a bit. I don't care who you negotiate with, holding a gun to your opponents head seldom words well. In fact, if often backfires. Let's face it Governor - you have nothing left in your quiver. You have taxed us to death and we have very little to show for it.
And by the way SIR - one more thing which is very critical. Even "bitter clinger" dolts like us have figured this one out. Our roads and bridges are a mess. Not only in need of repair, but also in need of expansion. Translation = trains don't cut it.
And as far as "bang for the buck" is concerned, trains are way out in left field. To put an additional lane in a highway cost about $14M/mile. To put in another LRT choo choo is $100M/mile. Did you know that Governor, or do you just not care?
BTW, the Northstar has done NOTHING to help Highway 10 (as promised). And it is a dynamite deal for the taxpayers. Okay, that is not true. Each round trip ride is subsidized by the taxpayers to tune of $44. In the real world Governor, companies go out of business with that type of business plan.
So - to try and hit the Republicans over the head with this demand for $135M on this train which very few will ride and traffic will stay congested, is a loser. There is a reason Governor why these dollars were not appropriated in the regular session. Ready for this one more time? BECAUSE THE SWLRT IS A LOSER! Heck, it is still being litigated because of the proposed route.
Bottom line? When you veto the tax bill tomorrow, it will be on you sir. Period. Most of us don't care for it to start with. Oh, your side does. And you will only be hurting your constituents. Veto the dang thing and hopefully the next time around we can have meaningful tax reform. Until that happens, you are just whistling past the grave yard.
