"First off, this continuing feud between Governor Kasich and Donald Trump is totally unacceptable. One of the first speakers at the convention should have been the Governor welcoming everyone to Ohio."
Well we are off and running! Or is it stumbling? Yesterday, in particular last night, reminded me of some of my days working in IT. When a roll out of a new service was planned. And the company I worked for had weeks, often times months to prepare. And then the roll out happened and it was a mess. I would think, "How in the world could you have let something this important get so screwed up?" Last night, I was having the same thought.
There were so many things wrong, I hardly know where to start. First off, this continuing feud between Governor Kasich and Donald Trump is totally unacceptable. One of the first speakers at the convention should have been the Governor welcoming everyone to Ohio. And Trump should have personally invited the Governor to do so. THEN, even though he is a Democrat, the mayor of Cleveland should have been next also welcoming everyone to Cleveland. That's all - then he could have left.
The floor fight with no roll call just showed the nation how fractured the party still is. It was embarrassing. To see both sides of this issue yelling at each other in front of the cameras must have put big smiles on the Democrats faces. Everybody, and I mean everybody, knew this was coming as the convention opened. To not have a game plan on how to address it in a civil way was unacceptable. Again, how could they have screwed this up.
The speakers before Melania Trump were for the most part excellent. Marcus Lattrell, the two brave men who wrote 13 Hours, Sheriff David Clarke (who btw, is a Democrat), and America's Mayor (Rudy). But when Pat Smith (mother of Sean Smith) got up to the podium, that to me was the moment of the night. And it would have been a golden moment to also show Donald Trump listening to this impassioned message. But no - during that speech Trump was on the phone doing an interview with Bill O'Reilly. What????
Finally Melania. Did she plagiarize? I can't say for sure. But I will say this - either she did or someone channeled Michelle Obama's inner self. Most of the networks have played the side by side comparison of the two speeches. Scary on how similar they were. For the campaign to just say no and move on, is going to keep this issue alive longer than it needs to be. Someone from the campaign needs to step up and say a mistake was made. Plagiarism made by (or alleged to be made) by a public figure dies a very slow death.
Those are my impressions of day one. Could have been very impactful instead of regrettable. We can only hope that day 2 goes a whole lot smoother.
